Or incredibly complicated. Or both.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Then along came hosted mailing list solutions, such as Aweber. Subscribe requests and confirmed opt-in processes were handled automatically by the software, and even unsubscribes could be handled with a simple link at the end of each email.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re a more recent player you probably don\u2019t realize what an incredible time-saver this new technology was.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The automation of list building was a revolution for budding internet entrepreneurs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But here\u2019s the thing\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This technology only works if it\u2019s being used by a smart marketer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Put a fancy lead capture form on a page and send no traffic, and you\u2019ll see no results.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even if you send traffic and build a sizeable list, but then send dull, poorly written emails, all you\u2019ll get is a gradual increase in Unsubscribes and unopened emails.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hosted mailing solutions and the automation they provide are amazing. Like a lot of marketing automation, it\u2019s based on Boolean logic, which uses simple binary instructions to trigger automatic responses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is more commonly known as: IF \u2013 THEN \u2013 DO<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For instance, when activated, one of the email instruction templates creates this automated response:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><i>IF<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the Webinar Attendee leaves before 00:30:00 time stamp, <\/span><\/i><b><i>THEN<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> send them <\/span><\/i><b><i>THIS<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Email.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s a clever feature, for sure, but what content are you going to put in the email?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What do you say to someone who didn\u2019t get to the halfway point of your webinar?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A marketing novice might send a \u201cBuy Now and Save\u201d email, but is that really the best approach?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your customer didn\u2019t see the entire webinar, they didn\u2019t get all the content and they certainly didn\u2019t get to the part where you introduced your offer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Okay, you might get SOME results simply because you\u2019ve reached out and made contact. What could you write in an email that might counter the potential objections?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The key is to put yourself in your customer&#8217;s shoes, exercise some imagination, and figure out what issues may be in play.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><b>If they registered for the webinar, but didn&#8217;t show up\u2026<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Did something come up? Did they forget? Did they start to think that maybe the webinar wasn\u2019t worth their time?<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><b>If they watched less than 10% of the webinar\u2026<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Did they struggle to understand the premise? Were they confused about the value? Were they expecting something more in-depth (or something better tailored for beginners)?<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><b>If they watched less than 25% of the webinar\u2026<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Did they not understand the examples? &nbsp;Was the presentation too complicated? Was more foundational material required?<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><b>If they watched the whole webinar but didn&#8217;t click the offer\u2026<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Too Advanced? Too Basic? Not enough Urgency?<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><b>If they watched the whole webinar, clicked on the offer, didn&#8217;t buy, but came back and watched the replay\u2026<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is great. Now we\u2019re getting really granular. Does your customer need more information on the subject? Perhaps they just need a payment plan option.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Create a short email, or a brief video, that addresses each of these different scenarios and you\u2019ll see what a difference this can make.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Automated Marketing is at its best when it responds SPECIFICALLY<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sending email after email with different subject lines but essentially the same content is TECHNICALLY automation, but it\u2019s the really terrible kind.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And that\u2019s why robots are <\/span><b>NEVER<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> going to replace marketers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They\u2019re just going to make the whole process smoother, more responsive, and more personalized.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wait\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">automation<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> means BETTER <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">personalization<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">?<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yup! You heard it here first!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Don\u2019t be afraid of marketing automation. Just keep reminding yourself that it all boils down to IF \u2013 THEN \u2013 DO.
